I've been asked to provide a small stall of craft products for a local summer fair. I thought you folks may be interested in what I've done for the stall. Everything is fairly uncomplicated and simple to produce, most of it has been made using off cuts or reclaimed wood. Anyway to start us off I have...

10x Spalted Birch Clocks

Made from a branch of Birch I picked up whilst walking in a local woodland.

That should be it, like I said, it's only a small stall and everything is simple to make. Hope you enjoyed looking at them.

Hi Lee

That's a nice range of items. My local church have a couple of fund raising events a year and I have wondered about making some small items to donate to one of the stalls. You have fired my imagination - thank you!

They all look really good and would be suprised if you had to take any back home =D>
well depending on how much you are selling them for :D
Dave

thats the hardest part, what price to put on them. Ideas are welcome...

Pricing is always the hard part!

They look very nice. I love the book ends and truck. The only thing I'm less keen on is the chuncky back to the photo frame. Seems a bit thick to me.

Very nice.

In my view most people go to a summer fair to have a day out, not to spend money - other than, perhaps, on a cup of tea, a cake and an ice cream. However, they might be tempted if something takes their fancy and doesn't cost much. I would say that if you charged £5 per item you might sell a few - any more than that and you probably won't. That, of course, won't cover your costs but I think that's the way it is with these things.

Cheers

Paul

Please don't take the following the wrong way, as it isn't meant as a critism of workmanship. :)

I think that you would be better just concentrating on the child related products. Children is where the money is, and the other items just sadly look like something that you may try to hide or bin when your Gran dies.

thats ok EddieJ, i dont do it for the money as it is just a hobby to me. i know where your coming from though

Hi Lee

Nice work. What size is the clock insert and where did you source it please?

Hope the fair is a success for you.

Charlie - got the clock inserts off ebay. I think they were £30 for 10 inserts and there 36mm diameter. They come with the rubber ring and battery.

Right so I got some more stuff finished this weekend and managed to take photos too. Here we go...

Heart Trinket Box

This little box I made from a piece of oak. I kinda like it so I made another 2 to go with it. The wife thinks they're well cute. They'll be about 3" long.

Tealight Twister

This is an interesting item I've been working out for a while now. I took a section of branch and sliced it into four. Then I used 10mm oak dowel to hinge it all and put 40mm holes in for tealights.

Oak Table Centre Piece

Same as the Bubinga one. I just noticed a small patch of dark on the right side of the picture. Must be a burn from the sanding belt. I'll sort that tonight.

Nice work lee and I hope you do well with them, let us know how you get on. I had a day off yesterday and went to a local country fair, all be it quite a big one. There were plently of people walking round with bits and bobs tucked under their arm which they had purchased so some people must part with thier cash at these events. I might even stand my self next year but it will want a bit of planning as it an't cheap [£8.50 per ft]

good luck

You could be onto something with the heart shape trinket box. I rather like that. :)

Perhaps you could develop more objects using a heart as a theme.

Wow Lee! That's some assortment. I really like the three tiered candle holder, the twist out candle holder and the spalted clocks.

Good luck with the sales!

thanks MN Pete - I wanted to do examples of everything I have done or wanted to do as I'm hoping to take some orders home with me from the craft fair, not just sell on the day. The first time I made some bookends for a child I have repeat orders for about another 8 sets. All from the same person, so guess what all the kids in her family got for that xmas!

EddieJ - I've been meaning to do those heart shaped boxes for a months now. Just never had any nice enough oak pieces. I bought some of a lad last week who was scaling down from a 4000 square foot workshop into a double garage. He has a lot of oak to get shut of. I took 16 lumps, approx 100mm x 100m and 600mm long for £15
I'm going back for some more soon.

Lee,

Supplying all the wood and sundries, providing all the labour and no doubt manning the stall then handing over the proceeds,,,,,you are a very generous chap and dare I say it a very imaginative one as well.

Nice one.

ADIDAT - I obviously meant 100mm x 100mm

If I sell everything I will stand to make over £200 on the day. of which over £160 should be profit. I'll take £160 for a 2-3 hr craft stall everyday of the week. But it is a hobby so I couldn't give a monkeys if I came home with a tenner in my pocket.
