Hi - I am looking for a good quality 60 1/2 block plane. I am tempted to spend a bit such as the Lie Nielson - are they worth the money or are there similar products that do the job at a lower price?

John

I bet the LN is worth every penny.

Having said that I got a 60 1/2 off of ebay, record one for under £20 and its been very good.

wasnt their a baby block in the quansheng passarond that was said to be virtually indistinguishabe from the LN - check with mathewwh

Yes, Pete - that was a rebating (or, perhaps, "rabbeting"! :p) block plane, which has its advantages over a standard block plane but isn't as convenient to use (for the lack of an adjustable mouth).

Quangsheng planes are available from Workshop Heaven and they're basically clones of the Lie-Nielsen planes but, they're well made and, as far as I could imagine, they're right up there for performance.
