There must be a better way...and apologies if you've already shown me Dave.

What is the best way to draw m&t's? Take a simple window frame. I've been creating the frame head, cill and a stile as components and arranging them head lined up above the cill and the stile to one side. Then making the tenon on the ends of the stile.

I then move the stile into position on the lefthand end of the head and now want to create a mortice in head and cill. It's here that I think I am making a meal of things.

1) explode head
2) make a left > right selection of the head and stile (to include the tenon)
3) interface with model
4) hide the stile
5) push/pull the mortice through
6) select all the head
7) make the head a component - have to go through all the 'already have a component with that name' etc
8) unhide the stile
9) copy the stile over to the right hand side
10) repeat steps (1) to (8)

Repeat for the cill

Must be a better way.

Supplementary question....why is it that if I'm trying to create a centre stile then the equivalent for step (2) doesn't select and I have to make a right > left selection?

TIA

There is a better way.

First, there is rarely ever any need to explode a component after you've made it.

Take a look at the video here. Specifically at around 5:30 I show drawing a tenon on the end of a rail--the equivalent of your head--on a copy of the component. Then I open the leg for editing and draw the mortise.

I'd be happy to demonstrate 'live' if you'd like to send me your SKP file. I have time now.
