Are they worth going to? Or are they just an event to sell you things?

I usually go to the Scottish one at the SECC but it wasn't on this year apparently due to sickness of the organiser. Yes they are worth going to. Yes they are just an event to sell you things but generally there's no pressure. That's where I decided on the Jet Saw. Can't wait for it next March mainly to buy things. There are lots of demo stands too. The woodrat stand is good and they're always cutting something. Those contempating the SIP saw can compare it with the competition. There are usually some high end manufacturers like Hammer and Startrite. They are usually expensive to get in an they always cream you on the parking but I think it's worth it if you're just about to make a £1000+ purchase of a saw and want to see it in the flesh. There's usually a Bessey rep who offers good deals on packages. That's on I'll be visiting next year. Off the top of my head the last on I went to there were stands for:

Record
Scheppach
Kity
Trend
Dewalt
Bosch
Festool
Bessey
Woodrat
Lie Nielson
Hammer
Startrite
Burhouse were there
Makita
There was a Delta dealer but there won't be again.

Some of the more common companies often attend like Isac Lord but annoyingly Axminster tend not to. That said Jet were there and they are in the same building. Lots and lots of other nick nack stands. Specilaists in finishing etc. Then there are usually wood turning tutorials in a little side arena. Definatley worth going at least once.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll be going to it then..... there is another one I read in the paper that is cloaser to me, sometime this month, so might go that one. As you said worth going at least once. 8)

At the end of october there is a big show at the NEC see here http://www.w-aspects.co.uk/wexhibition/

It is supposed to be trade only but i think anyone can register. You get light industrial stuff and power tools right through to big cnc routers and its free to get in. Most manufacturers are there and they have huge stands with lots on display.

I arrive back from a week in France on saturday 11th October - a short break as Mrs H is five months pregnant so our trekking holiday through Nepal has been postponed - and I'm driving straight up to the Coventry show on the sunday. Anyone else going?
