Cast iron all over. Including fence. IMO the best small planer on the market (in the price range.) Mine took some setting up, but it works a charm now.

Hi - Thanks - I took a chance and ordered one.
What in particular was difficult about the set up, anything I should watch out for?

On mine the fence adjustor was absolutely atrocious. There was just no way to tighten it enough to keep it stable. In the end I threw most of it away and used the rest to make a bracket to fix the fence to the back of the machine. I then shimmed it square and it's been like that ever since.
The other problem I had was that, when it arrived, the knives were VERY blunt so I had to find someone to sharpen them. Once this was done and they were setup correctly it worked fine.
