Hi Folks, any chance of anyone having experience with the saw mentioned above wishing to share their experience of the SIP saw or other SIP equipment, to establish the worth of the brand??. Am thinking of buying one and price wise it looks very attractive, but what is their performance, reliability and accuracy like??
Thanks in advance for your time guys.

Joe :)

Hi,
I bought a SIP sliding mitre saw about 6 years ago, not sure of the model number but probably not made now anyway. It's a 10" saw sliding on twin rails. It has been OK, but there have been issues. The laser stopped working and then the bevel scale came off (just stuck on piece of plastic) so it doesn't look like it's made for professional use, but OK for occasional DIY people like me. The bevel and mitre settings can be adjusted to maintain accuracy. It recently played up - the blade didn't stop when I released the trigger and black smoke appeared. I pulled it loose, couldn't really see what was wrong but on reassembly, it worked. However the blade doesn't stop so quickly so I'm guessing the smoke came from an electronic blade brake of sorts.

Overall, it was a good buy for the price (for me at any rate) but I was disappointed when I thought it had burned out after not a great deal of use. I still use it, without the blade brake - doesn't worry me.

One issue though is dust - there was a bag supplied (waste of time) and even a dust extractor connected to the guard port leaves loads of dust around the place. A rear dust collection system is really needed.

I have a second hand SIP 1314 takes 255mm blades, the laser was not working when I got it but is now after a good vacuuming. Nice powerful saw for my needs, slides well, good positive stops on the angle settings, really simple to adjust settings with easily accessible screws but the dust collection is terrible. It is high on list of to dos to build some sort of rear dust collection system. It is not a FESTOOL or even a Bosch but fine for a DIYer.
