Hi folks,

Just thought I'd mention that in amongst the tools section at CostCo they've currently got the 12" SIP SCMS, the 2400watt job with the laser - I've never used one but it looks like a reasonable piece of kit to me. The cheapest I could find it online is £199, but it's way less than that at CostCo and if you look in the latest CostCo voucher booklet there is a further reduction, making it £99 ex. vat - that's cheaper than the single bar jobs from Focus et al!
If I didn't think the missus would beat me to death with it for wasting money I'd buy one myself!

Cheers,

V.

Edit: (I'm not in any way affiliated with CostCo by the way, I was just there shopping at the weekend)

My wife pointed the voucher out to me and asked if I was interested  I am interested but I'm not sure how good these saws are. I'm guessing that a 12" SCMS is a fairly big beast and I have limited space in my workshop (single car garage) as it is full of sheets of MFC and half built kitchen units. However if the wise ones on this forum tell me it really is a great bargain I might not be able to resist

I'll check the model No. on the special offer voucher tonight. If it is the same as Tony's one I might just go for it at £99 + vat. I think the offer starts some time in November at My local Costco...not sure if it's the same date in every branch.

I've got a feeling it was November sometime in my voucher book, I'll have a look this evening. Wonder if that'll give me enough time to butter up the missus about getting one...

One for Tony, maybe. Can the 12" SIP scms do trenching cuts, as in for making halving joints etc?

George N, Vormulac and anyone else reading this thread with interest or (dare i say anyone with a notion of spending money without SWMBO`s explicit approval :D :D :D )

neither of the SIP SCMS do/had (heard mention of them adopting it for the next? model ) a depth stop...

read the Thread to Tonys gloat/review :D , and you`ll see he simply tapped the casting for a 8mm bolt.........almost the same as I did

BTW mines the 10" and as tony said works pretty accurately straight out the box :D :D

P.S. Yes, they are pretty large beasties

hope this helps...

I've had a look on "the bay" and SIP 12" SCMS on "buy it now" offers are priced at £189 including P&P, so the Costco offer looks very tempting. My biggest problem would be where to put it.

Well, I going to Costco tomorrow morning to find out about this :D

Be damned if I am gonna lose out on this one!

Cheers.

Yep. Not brilliant for it, but servicable once a stop is added. I think the later models have the trenching stop already in place.

I am still very happy with the machine but always use the shooting board after cutting with it when I am making furniture - for general use, the shooting board is not neccesary
