I very soon got fed up with the ali fence graunching across the tables when setting it to a new width. Axminster probably sold a lot more at the recent sale price, so this might be of interest.

A piece of hard thin plastic to cover the machined fence mounting surface, and another under the ~50mm clamping washer does the trick. 0.3 mm (polypropylene?) plastic from one of those soft tear-proof office folders is the stuff. Then just half a turn to loosen the bristol locking levers and the fence just slips out, and no more need to remember to hold it up. All just as rigid when tightened up.

Ivan,
I am guessing that you are talking about the ali Axminster bandsaw fence.

I was considering buying one. Could you comment a bit more please or even a review would be excellent.

Alan, the machine in question is Jet's planer thicknesser so I think you're on the wrong track. If not what do you want to know, I've had one for about 6 months now

:D as Borat would say: "is niiiice!"

BTW, did you know there's an addition to the family now, by way of a 10" version, for a LOT less money. I can't decide whether I'm keen to see it or not, as it will probably make me wish I'd waited for the smaller one.
