This simple shallow curved bowl was turned across the axis of a piece of spalted silver birch. (Imagine a propellor on the lathe and you got the idea) It broke off, splintered and generally misbehaved whilst it was being turned but eventually it turned out to be quite beautiful. It was finished with wax and buffed to a polish. Its length is approximately 7 inches. I find it is a good way of using up branch wood which can't be used for anything else and would otherwise be thrown away. If you want to try it please be careful as turning a "propellor" can be dangerous. The thing to most avoid is leaning forward as you turn because you can't see 90% of it.
