A friend has offered me some space on his land so that i can build a wood store for all the wood i keep hoarding.

I dont really know the best design to go for so am looking for inspiration so if you dont mind sharing pics of your wood stores that would be great!

thanks a lot all

Afraid mine is piled up alngside the shed with a tarp over it (when the wind doesn't remove it) As I get a lot of salvaged wood and rarely buy any I don't worry too much. Any that splitts too much either becomes something small or ends up in the wood burner. There are those on here who do it properly and I'm sure that theywill soon be on with their designs and ideas

I think this entirely is dependant on how much wood you have and how much you intend to horde?

For my turning blanks I have a large shelf up high which, at the moment, is sufficient. However, soonish I'm going to be taking delivery of enough wood to mean I'll be fighting my way into the 'shop. So I'm about to build a shed in the garden. But that's restricted by how much room I have in the garden. If you have the space and cash, go as big as you possibly can. Storage is always, always useful.

I store my wood like a squirrel!! We don't have room for proper storage  so some is outside under the garden sun shelter, some on top of the workshop, and the stuff ready to use is under, in and over any space I can find inside the workshop

here you go

Though it is soon to have a roof, concrete floor & new doors. I`ve started collecting large trunks with a view to trying hollow forms, so i need to sort it out so i can store lots more     .

I have a store similar to what George as for storing his logs in the garden.
Then i have part of the shed where i store all my blanks and split logs on a rack.
Then i have a rack in the workshop where i keep pieces for turning, and to dry out more. :D
It does take up quite a bit of space once you get started

Hi Alie,

I use mostly boards and cut them up as I need so my wood store is more like a timber pile:

I do have a large pile of unsorted blanks and shorter boards upstairs as well although I find they often get forgotten about....

Cheers,

Richard

Mine is all in the garage stacked on the axminster wood supports (3 verticals) bolted to the wall. Underneath it all is the pile of short lengths

The photo was WIP - since then a further sort has allowed the boards on the right to be stored.

Also in the photo you can see some of the wall storage - some years ago I bought salvaged office overhead units (unused) for £2 each...I sold the unwanted lights on ebay for more than that, and then made a modular set of boxes from 6mmply with 10mm bases and then allocated them (plumbing, decorating, large screws, bolts etc) - much more efficient use of space than shelves and uni boxes.
