I pulled out my shooting board to trim a few mitres this evening and it didn't seem right.
I placed a couple of squares on it and oh dear.

I think that needs a little fettling. Or maybe just throwing away and starting fresh.

Are you sure your squares are accurate? I had a combination square from our local hardware store, similar to Wickes, and it was great if you wanted 93 or 87-degree cuts. Even after trying to fix it by filing the inside track, it didn't last long because the aluminum frame deformed over time. Another €4.50 down the drain.

Yes the square on the right is new and I checked it when I got it. The other square agrees with it. Also putting both end to end and then laying a straight edge along them shows no discrepancy.

The shooting Board, although not perfect, is fine.
Use the lateral lever on the plane blade to create the angle you need.

Rich, like you, I am also at that point where I need to make a new shooting board.

The only twist with mine is the slightly different use ...
