OK I understand the usual advice is that hardpoint saws canot be sharpened because the hardened teeth are are harder than a file, but chisels etc are harder than a file and they can be sharpened.

So why isn't a hardpoint saw sharpened with eg a stone or a diamond file?
 
Western-style impulse hardened teeth can absolutely be touched up with a triangular ceramic file, or even a thin diamond paddle if you watch what you're doing. And so can non-hardened teeth.

If you want to experience a sharp handsaw (impulse hardened or not), touch it up lightly with a fine, triangular ceramic file.
