It'll be a couple of weeks or so before I do another project video but here is a basic Shaker style bench https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwRcOvU6eVA .

What I have learned from doing these videos is that I'm going to be keeping my eyes peeled for a good secondhand 14" bandsaw. Using pre dimensioned timber is great but at some point I'll need to resaw. In addition making do with a coping saw is fine but it's not really designed for the amount of work I'm asking it to do. A nice bandsaw would prevent a rabbit hole of big frame saws etc.

Also by doing the videos it's given me a ideas to do a couple of quick ones on housing joints and setting out curves. Anyway, hope you like it.

Nice bench.
Nothing special about Shaker furniture - it's British vernacular gone colonial; plus virgin forest, sexual frustration and simplistic ideology. You will find similar stuff here if you look around - more farm, cottage and chapel rather than posh house , church etc.

Bebbs' Welsh Furniture book makes shaker stuff look quite dull and feeble!

Very much agree with that Jacob. I chose this project because it was quick rather than any desire to highlight shaker design. There is indeed a ton of stuff from these shores too that I'll be sure to explore. Thanks for the links, great stuff.

Enjoyed the project, found the spots with no sound a little disconcerting.

Amazing what you can do in <12 minutes

I know Ed, sometimes when it goes to 8 x I loose the sound. Not surprising when I shoot it on a smart phone and then use windows movie maker :)

Very nice, the speeded up chisel sound is strangely comforting! Out of interest how long did it take in real time?

Woodmonkey I did not keep tabs on it. Making the cut outs and brackets by hand takes the time. I'd guess at four hours but not sure.

Hi Graham,
Thanks for all your YouTube videos' enjoyed them all, particulary the one on using the £6 hardpoint hand saws....
If you're looking for future suggestions, how's about using wooden planes to dimension and true up stock?, I know youve done one or two videos on wooden plane tune and restoration I think?
Reason I'm asking is following Chris Schwarz's idea of Coarse > Medium > Fine going through the planes for stock preparation. I get the idea of starting with a Jack, then Panel and finally a Smoother, but it be great to see those steps with an expert ! :D
It's difficult to use a smoother on shavings.......

Cheers

Good video Graham. I like the way you've speeded up the repetitive bits as they can become a bit tedious.

Good project and very good video, you've really got the knack for both!

Thanks Graham, really enjoyed this video. =D>

Setting out the curves looked complicated, I've got a plastic draughtsman's curve from my student days that make this easy.

Regards Keith
