self adhesive or velcro sanding discs?

For most static machine sanding I use 120 grit and apply it using a spray adhasive. Rarely found the need to go above 120 grit as a worn 120 grit cuts more like a 150 or even a 180 grit. The other problems with velcro discs is that they're expensive and only available in smaller sizes, so could you actually get a 300mm I wonder?

Scrit

Using the disc sander with the used disc for a short while will build up heat making it easier to peel off.

we use 300mm velcro discs on the disc sanders, and useful for hand sanding larger areas, ie: conference tables

I have a similar sander which also uses self-adhesive discs. Not really had any problems.
Hope this helps
Philly :D

Thanks for the replies shipmates,

I am waiting for Axminster to give me the dimensions of the machine and will go from there.

A recent post on the subject of bench top sanders mentioned the Triton combination machine. (belt and disc)

I will look into this model, at least now it seems that self adhesive discs are not too much of a worry.

Cheers, Esc.

I had a similar sander and put a Velcro hook on the sander to convert it (I have a ready supplier locally of high quality 300mm Velcro disks but not self adhesive ones, works a treat. I got the Velcro hook from Axminster I seem to remember

Thanks for that advice Andy, I noticed that item on the Axe site "velcro hook" but didn't really understand it. :?

Its good to know that its got some merit in any case.

The dimensions of the machine are as follows ;

Height…………410mm

Width………….450mm

Depth………….510mm

It may just be too big for my little shed  which is already full with tools. I hope I can fit it in as I'm sure it would be a useful piece of machinery.

Cheers, Esc.

The Triton combo sander certainly looks superior to anything on the market at the moment. I suspect it's be at least 6 months before it gets here and pricewise will be somewhere around £200 - 250 which is getting near the Jet model.

I'd go with velcro, Esc. You've got to be pretty strong to pull those adhesive discs off!

Cheers
