Secondhand Belt Sanders

I want a large (suitable for cleaning up and flattening large pieces of wood) handheld belt sander and don't have a large budget (£40 max). Being me I want something well built, not some DIY junk that will brake in 2-3 years.

Are there any makes and models to look out for on the secondand market?

I have had my eye on old metal bodied machines (probably pre-1960) by the likes of wolf, are they any good? I will probably get one anyway should the opportunity arise to add to my growing set of pre-1960s powertools, its just a question of priority.

I would also be interested to hear any recommedations for new sanders or without the budget retraits, I may consider waiting to build up a larger budget if there is machine worth saving for (new or old).

I had the use of a big old Makita a while back and it was nice. My Argos jobby recently died after a few years hard labour, I replaced it with a one of similar ilk for £40 two years warranty. Its only a belt sander, so if it has a reasonable wattage then do you really need a brand. I did look at a 60's aluminium bodied wolf on ebay which look really cool.

My Dad (joiner, now retired) has a metal-bodied Wolf belt sander. I don't know exactly how old it is, but it's still going strong since at least the early '80's . As is his metal-bodied Wolf single speed 'leccy drill, now I come to think of it.
