Hello again ,

I am making a desk out of birch ply, i have sanded the edges to a smooth finish but want to seal with some sort of varnish, what would you suggest?

Thanks

Mark

depends what your final finish is going to be. but in general the best things is shellac as it is easy to use and will not react anyother finish you finally put on.

Zinsser or Liberon wood sealer are shellac based first coats for any wood type

I've made a few pieces with birch ply, used Osmo Top oil to finish everything with great results, haven't found the need to seal the edges.

slightly off topic but I used zinzer B-I-N (shellac based I believe) as a base coat on mdf recently, edges and face, it seemed to do a great job of sealing the mdf, followed up with a coat of emulsion.
