Hi just bought the lathe, which was not working. Think I have sorted the KNOWN problem, now need to buy a new BELT and see if it works. Struggling to find the correct belt. If anyone can advise, would be very grateful. If I can get the lathe working will be hoping to find a 2nd hand CHUCK that fits it. Any advice appreciated.
Mick

Someone might know the size for that model. If not try string tied round the pulleys then cut and measure to get size, note the type, V, triple V etc and have a look at simplybearings website. They have decent diagrams as well as dimensions. I'm sure there are other suppliers.

And if you can’t get one of the correct length as I couldn’t (quite a few years ago now) you could try those belts made up of short pieces and rivets very handy for odd lengths. Ian

There is a Sealey.co.uk site - perhaps an email to them might help, give any serial numbers and as much info as you have.
Or Toolden.co.uk they seem to be Sealey dealers - hope this helps

Richard thanks for quick reply. The two pulleys are variable diameter, and i THINK that 1 cm wrong belt length would stop me accessing the lowest or highest gears. Also, if the belt were a bit wider, it would have to be a bit longer, so I am wary of trying to measure, but pleased that people are willing to take the time to reply. Mick

Many thanks for your help. Contacted Sealey via website and they sorted me out. Mick

Thanks to those who replied. From Sealey, the belt required was a M22 v belt, 560 mm inside length. 10 mm wide, 6 mm deep. It cost me £21 BUT it looks like the same size can be obtained from bearingboys in norwich Z22 V Belt (Dunlop Premium) for around £3 plus postage. Not sure if the quality is the same. Mick

Literally just sold mine, so I can't measure it. Dunlop belt from bearing boys will be fine.
Something like a nova chuck with an insert to match your spindle thread?

Regular application of PTFE lubricant on the sliding parts of the pulleys, and don't change speed whilst stationary.

Hi thanks for the reply. I did grease the shafts but not with PTFE which I have never used, will have to get some. Would be nice t have a chat with someone used to this lathe, but will hold myself to one question. Compared to the other 2 lathes I have used, which both work on the multiple pulley system rather than variable diameter pulleys, the Sealey stops rotating very quickly when I turn it off. Is this the extra friction that must come with the variable pully or is it a sign that one or more of the bearings ( roller or ball bearing ?) need replacing. Mick

You should be able to feel if the spindle bearings are on the way out by rotating the spindle by hand without the belt connected.
Do stop pretty quick though.

Having paid £20 for the belt and found I could have got one for £3, I now have a shattered drive pulley. I think I have seen that one from Sealey costs nearly £50, Still not sure if the lathe is going to be OK, so wondering if anyone sells pulleys that would fit , other than Sealey. The pulley looked in a bad state when I bought the lathe, not sure if thats why it broke, or was it because I assembled it wrong when putting the new belt on.
