Here's a chess set that I made, where the pieces are landmarks from around the world. When cutting the chess pieces, I used two pieces of pine either side of the wood to clamp it together. Does anybody have any suggestions or know any better ways of clamping the wood when compound cutting? The pine seemed to do an okay job but not brilliant.

Feel free to click on the youtube links, I've made videos of how I made the chess pieces and the whole compound cutting process.

Very nice work, and a great idea to use landmarks for the pieces. =D>

When compound cutting, I have just used a wrap of masking tape to hold parts together, even with a double wrap, you can still see the cutting lines through the tape.

Take care.

Hi Michael. I watched both videos and note from the info in them that you were 15 when you made this chess set for a GCSE project.
I think you are being extremely modest with the info you've posted here and I admire you for that.
I note you said that "it's not perfect" (as stated by you on another well known scroll site), but by heck, if you carry on the way you are, you have the potential to be a master of the scroll saw !

Fantastic work for such a young age. =D>

Thanks so much. Yes, I was in year 11 at the time so from when I designed it I was 15, to when I made it I was 16. Yes, from a first glance it does seem amazing, but from having made it I can see numerous problems with it, such as the alignment of the chess board.
Haha I like that title, Master of the scroll saw.

A really great piece of work. I don't do a lot of compound work but when I do I use a Clamp , I think I got the Pattern from Steve Good ---- but can't be sure

Possibly the one about 1/3rd the way down this page? http://stevedgo.ipower.com/cat/?page_id=55
There's another one a bit nearer the top of the page, but no pattern for it, though one isn't needed.

Excellent work and I'd name you The Scroll Whisperer! lol or maybe Lord of The Scroll?
ps nickname is The Village Idiot haven't a clue what it means lol
