Unless you want them pretty and shiny I'd opt for some second hand ones. 80 quid seems alot. I mainly use a 3/8 gouge. Occasionally slightly smaller, occasionally slightly bigger but generally 3/8 does most door/window moulds.

But at least they are proper tools, made in Sheffield.

(The description is a bit odd - further evidence that tool sellers don't always understand the tools they sell. Does this make sense to anyone? "These gouges are used for such specialist work as scribing the shoulders of tenons formed on round components, chair legs for example. ")

Neither of those, unless you want to waste money and have an ornament to look at.

I bought these and a few others from the tip, if there of any use pm me your address and you can have them. The vinegar removed alot of rust. Slight pitting on the back but nothing a sharpening stone won't remove. You'd just need to regrind them to incannal ;)

Yes Coley :) Ive seen the wooden ones.
Duh, so how to I make one?
If bits glued together seems easy enough, out of one piece, perhaps not.
Or one lump cut on the bandsaw?

OK brill,if you think the sizes would be useful. I'll get my skill set going on the lathe I should be able to turn up couple of handles. One of my carving tools books shows how to bash out the tang.Use a bit of 15mm, 22mm copper pipe to make a new ferrule. I'll PayPal you back the postage cost
You'd just need to regrind them to incannal....... Yes....... I think I've read about..... that bit :)

Only think about remaking the handles if you want them looking pretty. Needless to say they'd work fine as is, unless you dislike the marples branding :) personally I'd start using them first, then see if you want to change them. You're gonna be busy !!
