So knowing my luck, these are old hat and everyone has one etc, but I'd never seen them so thought it might be worth a post.

Simple idea, you can use your disc sandpapers with this velcro block.

Nice and soft top, with finger guides.
 
I use one of these (5") which matches my sandpaper stock / sanders. Nice and comfortable but I think I got mine from China eBay for about £4! As at the time I could find no UK stock. Not expensive, simple and effective.
 
A bit of shaping and a couple of shallow bandsaw cuts and you could come up with some of those quite easily.
You can get sanding discs at 25mm ideal for smaller or tighter areas and another use for small offcuts
