I have been asked if I can make a cruet set. Has anyone done this and if so where can I get or what can I use as a stopper for the bottom? I am talking of the pot type not the mills. Racking my brain (doesn't take long) to think of something I could use and couldn't find anything in the craft shops that would work.

Ideal. I hadn't thought of the tops, I was going to drill those but this would be a better option I think Thanks a a lot. Hadn't spotted them.

I have made a few salt/pepper pots and used the old 35m film can lids. They fit a treat.

I have also made a roman style salt shaker

It's turned in 2 parts. The top pot and the underside is a cone with the hole for the salt in the point

The pot is filled by pouring the salt in the hole with the pot upside down. When it is upright the cone stops the salt from coming out and when you shake it the salt goes to the top and some falls through the hole. It's very efficient and quite a talking point too!

This one was a bit of an experiment and done with platan (plane) from alongside the Canal du Midi.

I've seen those 'roman' pots before but forgotten all about them. Might be one answer. Certainly worth having a go at. I am afraid I don't have any 35mm canisters any more. so that is not feasible. I was originally thinking along the lines of finding something that I could use and making the pit to fit. The ones in Turners retreat would be fine but obviously if I can find a free option I will jump at it
