That is such sad news, I had the pleasure of meeting Bob a few times at get togethers he also bought a thicknesser off my many years ago, it was a long trip down Southampton way but well worth it to meet him.
Always such a helpful guy he helped me program my first VFD via pm’s over a decade ago, I was a complete novice with them back then but with his patience, persistence & an awful lot of typing he managed to guide me through all the complexities, such a good bloke.
Rest in peace Bob

Earlier this year, a good mate of mine was having a few issues with his old Myford metalwork lathe ( needed to fit a new Dewhurst switch) and I contacted Bob via PM on this forum on my mates behalf.
Bob & I exchanged a good few messages and Bob offered us good advice and based upon his information, my mate & I managed to get the problem sorted and the lathe is up & running again, both forward and reverse via the new switch...👍

A real Gent and he will be sadly missed....!

That's really sad, Bob will be greatly missed.
He found and restored a Fobco pillar drill for me some years ago, all I paid for was the the parts - a generous man and a great help on electrical matters.

Sad news indeed. Corresponded a little with Bob some time ago, having read his excellent guide to 3 phase motors. He sold me one of his DRO+lock mods for my Jet p/t and gave me lots of useful advice on inverters and old machines. A real gent. Many condolences to his family.

Bob helped me out 15 years ago when I mislaid the screws to my old vice while restoring it. He cut me some new ones and posted them through to me. Many commiserations and condolences to his family.

Never met Bob, but we corresponded fairly regularly over VFDs, solar panels and other topics. He was a mine of information, always offered without arrogance. He'll be sadly missed.

But just one lighter touch - I first asked him about his 9fingers nickname, as many, many years ago, a chap called Bob Minchin worked on a research farm where I was. He was doing some fencing work, and left his hand on one of the posts as the piledriver came down. Lost one finger. Then repeated the exercise six months later. Unsurprisingly, it was not the same Bob as "ours".

The first time I met Bob I commented on his full complement of digits he said his username came from his avatar photo taken at a time he had his finger bandaged, if you look carefully you can see the bandage
