Penny Farthing Tools is re-locating out of town at the end of the month, so the last day of trading at the current address will be the 27th Aug. Apparently this is due to the very high lease rates in the centre of town, coupled with the now exorbitant car parking charges and lack of parking outside the shop. The owner doesn't know where he's going to as yet but it looks like it'll be somewhere on a trading estate - Rob

That's very sad  That has to be one of the best shops ever for second-hand tools. Bought quite a few tools there, including my #55.

Cheers

As Tony the owner is local to Salisbury, my guess is that the new location won't be too far away...just not in the centre of town. It was always a nice place to pop into for a goof round if I had other bits and pieces to do in town - Rob

He'll be better off (in all senses) on a trading estate, lower rent/rates, more room and plenty of free parking.

It's what's been happening to town centres all over - reduced to Banks, Building Societies and vacant properties.

Glad they are not closing down completely, but not living in Salisbury an out of Town location would be better for me especially if there is parking?

Yes, but it does have a nice ambience and on the rare occasions I am in Salisbury it is easy and enjoyable just to drop in there and I always seemed to manage to park in the car park opposite the Alzheimer's Society (thank god I can still remember that). If it's on an industrial estate near the edge of town it needs much more of an effort, so it's bad news as far as I am concerned.

Quite so.

I'd learned which turn off to take from the A36 - parking was always dead easy - the two or three times I've been so far.

That is a shame - the couple of times I've been, I was on foot and wouldn't have been able to get to an out-of-town location. There's going to be no character left in any of our town centres the way things are going, just the usual run of interchangeable high street names.
