..the latest reviews I have seen on this web site for Makita are pretty awful....so had given up on them. I did buy a couple of Bosch products a while ago as I assumed Bosh was "quality"...but they to seem to have given up on quality and gone down the "chinese cheese" route in search of higher profits but rubbish tools...
Just like for every brand there are low-end and hi-end products, for bosch the low end ones are in different colour, but for makita they are all the same colour...
just really depends on each model.

@stevebod. With respect, you seem readily influenced by other people's opinions - that's quite a list of tools you're happy to reject based on people you (presumably) haven't met - and yet you haven't mentioned what it is you're expecting from the tool, or what you expect to use them for, or in what way they fail to meet your criteria. Care to share?

Just curious; I've only owned three mitre saws (with a chord) in 16 years of working wood for a living, and they've all been perfectly decent, given my expectations WRT their price; ranging from £25 to ~ £300 to £700-odd, obviously some are better than others, but - shocker - I didn't expect much from a £25 saw.

So what are you expecting exactly?

Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter,
..and thanks for your comments..I accept I am probably being to "picky"..just that my next mitre saw will probably be the last one I buy as will hopefully be retiring soon and I am trying to get together a decent set of tools before the income drops! My last saw was a "refurbish" and cost the princely sum of 40 quid !!, and has been great for building a couple of sheds and general cutting, but a small cutting envelope. (I am not a professional, and not a carpenter, just a keen DIYer with aspirations of grandeur). So I am looking for a general purpose 255 dia saw, trench cut, double bevel (lazy) with a range of about 280+ long * 75+ max deep, and as accurate as possible on the angles. (to make up for my somewhat limited ability).
I understand that most products are now Chinese, and like the early Japanese stuff is subject to much variation, so you may get a good one, or you may get a bad one...reading all the above I will probably go with the Metabo now as it seems like a good compromise...

..thanks for all the input....(I used to be indecisive..but now I just don't know.....)
