I bought a axminster universal base plate for my bosch router as the person I emailed at Axminster said it would fit my exact model but I received it today and it does not fit. What do I do since I really need to get a 5/8" template guide to fit?

send it back, based on what u say re the email exchange, "unfit for purpose."

Is there any reason you bought the Axminster one over Trends?

I have a Trend one and a Bosch router, get them to swap it and send you a fiver back.

Trend don't list that one but the 2000 is the only one they say their base don't fit.

I would drop them an email.

I've got the same router and there are a set of collars that fit into the Bosch base, that Bosch, (and I think either Axminster or Rutlands), sell....I didnt need a new base...

The bosch template guides do not fit either as they have a slightly different bayonet fitting so they won't lock in. Only the one that came with it fits.

I know you said you need a 5/8" guide, what for?

What size have you got and can you get away with using a different size cutter?
Won't be able to for a dovetail jig.

the guide bush is for the guitar templates that I have- they have an 1/8" offset.

Just so I know in future, which routers under £100 take a set a different imperial guide bushes?

Why not just contact Trend and see if the Unibase fits your router?

I've emailed axminster about the universal sub base, and it does fit but I was trying to line it up with the wrong holes before!!! However it does not use the same holes as the original base plate and uses bolts and nuts to attach it rather than screws. The problem is there is some play in it as the bolts are smaller than the holes and I am not sure how to accurately centre it.

Doesn't the base come with an alignment tool. The Trend version does and gets a perfect alignment as I fitted one to my router just recently, also the Trend comes with a collection of machine screws & nuts & bolts.

HTH

It comes with the same screws as the trend base but there is no alignment tool- comes with just the base and screws. What does this tool look like?

EDIT: I googled some stuff and found this http://www.trend-uk.com/en/US/trend/con ... dge&id=996

It didn't come with something like that. However the trend bushes fit the axminster base so the line up pin and the 16mm plastic bush would fit my axminster base. Kinda annoyed that I'll have to contact trend to get something that should be included with the axminster product anyway

Guess we best not tell you the Trend is £5 cheaper then.

I see that u can buy the alignment stuff here http://www.mtspowertools.co.uk/browse.p ... 37/level/4 (nearly the price of the damn base!!!!!)
but hopefully if I complain to axminster they might sort something out for me as someone didn't think it through when they made their product

I can make you one when you come over tomorrow if you like?
