Hi all,

Just thought I'd let you know I've started building a cabinet for my tablesaw which will also house my new router. I'm going for this approach because of my tiny workshop and need to save space. Have to admit the idea is unashamedly stolen from Jhalfa on his thread :
https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19906&highlight=table+router

Started cutting the wood today, will update as I move on :

(i've just discoverd sketchup so this is a rough drawing of what I intend to build - lets see how close the real thing turns out !)

to use the tablesaw fence with a router ad on woulden't the router need fitting the other way?

are you also removing the sliding table? the design is good but i would want some small draws to keep all the bits in

Hi there,

It looks like a good space saving design. Presumably you'll stand on the right hand side with the router and feed wood effectively out of the page? If so have you looked at the distances so that your not going to do your back in over time? I was concerned about this with my table and I'm quite pleased it seems to have worked out okay in that regard.

Looking forward to seeing it translate into a real bit of kit.

David

Works very well for me, and the height is perfect. Effectively you are using the other side of the fence as the fence for the router.

As you will see from the above link, I added a removable secondary fence to give me the extra height needed for vertical routing plus to enable only part of the bit to be exposed (combined with dust extraction).

I stole the idea from an american book called "setting up shop" by a chap with an unpronounceable name

Regards

Speed, not sure what you mean about fitting the router 'the other way' ? If you mean the fence faces the wrong way (towards the saw blade) then there is a fence runner on the opposite side to mount it on, or do you mean something else ?

Yes I am removing the sliding table that came with the saw (TS-200) as it just takes up too much space, plan then is to have an extension table that lifts up on the left hand side (haven't got the skills in sketchup to draw that!)

The space under the saw and under the router will have draws fitted once I've built the carcass, again I didn't have the ability to draw them in sketchup

DavidE,
not sure what you mean so can you elaborate ? I'm keen to know before I start putting the bits together in case I've made a balls up! Intention at the moment is to do the same as jhalfa and feed timber from front to back like the table saw

Jhlafa,
Problem I have (which I haven't solved yet) is that my fence is a short type which only reaches halfway across whereas yours goes all the way over (as does your secondary table), do you think this will cause me a problem ?

thanks all for your input, will save me a lot of frustration and hopefully result in a much better end product :D , the more input the better

Hi Paul, sorry for the woolliness. What I mean links to what Speed says. If that drawing shows the front side of the table saw - you will not be able to feed material front to back on the router table unless the fence is to the right of the bit otherwise you will be climb cutting. What I was trying to say is make sure you position your Router so you can comfortably guide the material - ie sufficient space to get your feet under and not too much bending over etc. I hope this helps :?

David (who is hopefully not causing too much bewilderment)

Dave

thats a good point, i hadn't considered foot space underneath.

Have already stated scratching my head (glad I found out about this now !)

cheers again

The length of the fence should not be a problem as long as you can lock it rigid. This is because you need to build an auxiliary fence anyway for the router part so as long as you can secure it solidly to the existing fence you should be good to go.

Jhalfa,

Thansk for the input, that keeps the project simple

Dave,

Dawned on me this morning, the table is going to be on castors so there will be 10cm air-space underneath (think that will do the job)

...

I had problems cutting the panels on my TS-200 saw on the weekend, through another thread I found out the blade supplied with the saw had been the wrong size. Just rung axminster and they immediately offered to send a replacement, so I am a happy man (should make the rest of the project easier, took 2 hours to cut 6 pieces of wood on the weekend !)

cheers

Hi Paul, I was earwigging, think I'll do the same and give APTC a call,
thanks for that info,
regards, Rich.
