Popular Woodworking have made a short video at the IWF Atlanta show of Lewis Stepp and his Router Boss being demontrated.
Sure to produce discussion and comparisons with the WoodRat it can produce the same results but by following different methods. It is more highly engineered however and Lewis says there are only a couple of very minor fixes to be done and it will be ready for market.

See the video http://popularwoodworking.com/craftsman here.

I used to have a woodrat and the principle looks exactly the same.

One of the problems with patent law is that you need to take the other guy to court which is expensive and I seem to recall that you can only claim as damages the amount of money that you have lost in sales because of the other product. You can note claim punitive damages, or court costs.

I know that Dyson was campaigning for a change in the UK patent laws because he almost went bust defending the patents for his cyclone vacuum cleaner from the big boys like Hoover. Every time they brought out a new model it cost him money, so they just have to do it often enough and the problem goes bust ;(
