Evenin' (and look away now Jacob! )
So I'm getting there very slowly due to real life and kids and such.
Thanks to some great advice from mtr1, who was kind enough to share his knowledge, I sized down from the 8 ft original length quoted in 'thy book that shalt not be named' to buying 3 metre lengths of keruing so I could get the legs and bearers from the same stock. Owe you a pint Mark. Extending the length slightly from by adding 2 of the off cuts means it ends up approx 2.3m which is big enough for me to build doors easily. Mostly at least initially I want a bench that is big enough to do house stuff on like doors. I want to make replacements for all the crappy ones in my house over time... anyway... veering towards digression like a drunk man.

Some pics I made on sketchup below.

Do you think the dimensions look ok? I'm aware the par sizes wont be that accurate in the end, made for my reference really. So some of the dimensions are a little fictional but that's fine. I'll get round that at the time.

On the deadman, I was wondering about using two separate 4x2s for 'flexibility' when clamping. I'm guessing the dimensions are stable/strong enough in the depth of them but i'm also a little worried the lack of width might pose an issue. Might it wobble so to speak because its quite narrow while clamping? Better to glue them together?

Not shown in the plans but for the leg vice i got some 8x1 ( i think) looks like internal window cill. half round one one side and jointed on the other. Plan on ripping that off to give the required width and joining 2 together and getting veritas screw malarkey to fit it. Also I got a used record vice which i plan to add to the left hand end of the bench.

My mate does some amateur but quality smithing and hes offered to make me some holdfasts when I finally get round to completing this.

*mad laughter in the background from my mrs.

76cm in height? I followed the elbow/finger/a****le height rule. . All these years I thought I was a God amongst men. Turns out I'm a short a*se!

Regards,
Cheers as always,
Chris

(sorry for the massive pics and you can open your eyes now Jacob lol. :D )
