I am intending to buy a Random Orbital Sander in the next couple of days. I like the Bosch gear that I have, and have narrowed it down to either the Bosch or the Metabo.

The bosch is 500w more powerful, and includes both a 150 and 125mm base- what advantage would using 125mm instead of 150mm offer- i cant see that either is a tool to get into tight corners? Does the bosch offer any other advantage over the metabo which seems to get excellent reviews from everywhere.

I have the Metabo version and very pleased with it. Fits to my Bosch shop-vac fine!

Only other factor, besides those you note, is that Bosch is 0.3kg heavier - perhaps reflecting the claimed extra 50w.

seems to be the common opinion "i have the metabo and very happy". i guess that very few people ever get to try both in anger, and having elected for one, stop looking at the competition.

i think i will also go for the metabo.

I dont think you will be disappointed with the metabo, i have had mine for a couple of years now and cant fault it, the cartridge filter is quiet good without outside suction especially when used with the abranet discs .

Why do you pay so much for those orbital sanders (if not professional use).

This sander of mine has done two seasons and used on around 60 tissue boxes.
And it sands.

Under £50.

BTW you could purchase three and have a different sanding grade on each. That is cost saving as well. (I have two)

+1 for Metabo.

Sanded all the walls in my son's new house after picture/dado rail removal without missing a beat. Excellent extraction with Abramet discs/Festool CTR Midi.

i have just ordered the metabo- i am sure that i wont be disapointed- nobody else has been. i have got some mixed abranet from ebay to give a try with too.

While not an orbital, I use a Makita 1/3rd sheet - purely because I object to the cost of dedicated abrasives. I just buy everything in 50m rolls. I had a ros, and I couldn't see it did significantly differently to anything else.
