Had a request from a friend to build a rolling table as per local golf club. After a bit of banter with one of the managers he allowed me to to take measurements in order to make one. Changed the design quite a bit and ended up with this sketchup drawing, it is not going exactly to sizes as I am updating it as I go along.

The base sits on the ground and due to the set up of the wheels the table, benches and canopy roll back and forth like a big swing but it all stays level so that your drinks do not spill. Customer wants the benches and table out of oak and the rest out of treated softwood with decking boards cladding the sides. Canopy to be made and covered by a local awning manufacturer.

Am well under way but will post pictures of items as finished.

Les, it looks very interesting but I am struggling to see the point of having the table and chairs slide back and forth. Perhaps it feels better than it looks (to me).

Andy

It does need to be tried, but the nearest comparison is like being on a porch type swinging seat. :? :?

But with this the whole lot moves without spilling your drinks. :D :D

How about making one in "minature" to see if it works?

Think he's got a bit beyond that point...

Les, do the rest of us a favour and slow down, would ya? Should be a "Don't Let The LOYL See This" warning on this thread. I'll be interested to see how it comes out - and I won't have to wait long.

Cheers, Alf

Les Chicken, Looks to me if you have been spending time at the golf club these days and not the workshop? Mind you with the temps. over the last month who could blame you.

How about fitting one of the clubs old lawn mowers to the project and making the project motorised or provision for draw hook and pulling chain.

As you can see from the dates on the pictures, the project was moving along nicely. BUT :x :x

The delivery of the specially mad canopy from a well known manufacturer was expected within 10 days. That changed to 17 working days :? :? .
Phone call from company that it will be delivered on thursday 7th sept

Waited in all day no delivery, on phoning the company courier had delivered it to the wrong place and did not know where it was. Waited friday, sat, and then promised monday.

IT ARRIVED TODAY. Opened parcel and checked dimensions to find the ends were straight not with a curve as per drawing supplied. Phoned company to complain sent around different departments to be told "we can not make a shaped end without a template so we made it straight". My comment "then why did you quote to a drawing" reply "Take it up with the shop you ordered it through" etc, etc, etc.

Delivery to customer now non existent could end up with a new table for the garden.

Will keep you posted

Les

edit sorry about the pictures photobox appears to be playing up. Another problem. Their new fast upload system does not give the correct url address.
