i got a phone call tonight from a customer that wants me to cut out a horses head for his rocking horse, not sure what size as yet but does anyone know where i could obtain a pattern i can resize for it..

TIA

I have a book on building a rocking horse. I think there is a pattern within it, will look later on. I assume the you mean the flat type of head rather than the fully curved one?

I made one years ago and got the head shape from a book on classical sculpture.
If you google rocking horse images they are fairly dull but if you go for horse sculpture images there are some very classy shapes.
There are a lot of images about it's a very popular subject.
Mounted horseman statues is a good one.

There is a technique which is useful if either you like the look of ply wood, or you are going to paint it, is to create a block out of layers of equal thickness ply, and you can get patters (or make them) which simply show you photos but because its ply, you get a contour map, and you just have to shape in order to make the contours look the same.

I made a rocking horse like that, and also a leaping cat.

Thank you for that, i have received a pdf with a horses head pattern in it but i will also keep this one too, you never know when i might get some spare time..
