I have a fancy shed in the garden, but it has been neglected and I want to restore it. It is a pine log cabin type building and I would like to paint it a fancy shade. Trouble is, it has gone silver from weathering and there is also some water stains.

Can it be restored and if so is it a case of getting the sander out. Pressure washer is a bit tricky as there are gaps and I suspect more water will end up inside the shed. Have read mixed reviews regarding the gels you can apply.

When you say you want to paint it a fancy shade flanajb, paint it with what exactly?

The wood could do with at least a good cleaning regardless of what you want to coat it with (the old adage "surface should be clean, dry etc."). While it's not absolutely necessary with a penetrating finish to remove the weathered surface with most other things you will get better performance if the wood is taken back a bit.

One of those shed color shades. I think they are more a water based stain than a paint.

Sort of half and half really! The distinction is nearly arbitrary with something like this.
