Hi!
I’m a Portuguese DIY woodworker and I need some advice from you all, as we don’t have this kind of forums here.
I’ve recently acquired a low angle block plane from a local seller, marked only “MADE IN USA”. What caught my eye was the fact that it’s not steel cast, but brass (or even bronze). Couldn’t disguise no brand on the blade (bus it’s pretty rusty and it’s currently soaked in vinegar). Does anyone have any idea what kind of maker this could be?
The plane was in quite bad condition, bed painted in a dark red colour (which I guess is not original) and I started to tune it. Once I started flattening the sole, noticed that the back of the sole was in a different angle (the back maybe 1mm higher than the sole, descending for about 4cm). It is clearly intentional. So I ask: is there any reason for this? Should I flatten all the sole straight?
I’ll attach pictures this afternoon. Thank you for your time and help!
