Hi All,
Where do you recommend buying Ashley Iles chisels from apart from themselves ( a bit cheaper elswhere), I think im looking at a 19mm and 25mm to start with (unless a better recommendation comes forward) for the door hinges after xmas. I was looking at the 4 piece set but thought maybe two would be better and a sharpening stone and guide. Narrow-Blade Veritas Mk.II, but not sure which stone/diamond.

Once you begin using them you soon find out different. The smaller sizes are great for cleaning out corners and there is no one size fits all so trying to use one chiesel for most jobs does not work as I found out. Mine all came fully sharp, but you do need to keep the edge on them during use which is unavoidable.

We have them in stock, please checkout our customer reviews.

You know I'm a bit of a hardball on the diamond stuff, but if I were new to woodworking, I would buy that set for $120 all day every day. They are the closest thing to proportions and edge performance of older english chisels that anyone will find.

I don't see how they can stay in business wholesaling them at a price that allows retail sale at $120, but that's something I'm sure they've figured out.

I think I can make a chisel better than anyone can buy anywhere as far as use and edge performance go, but they are only barely better than those, and those are much much better than many others at a similar price and some much higher.

They look a bit posh for hanging doors with,
Hopefully they will meet the theory of spontaneous junk...

...which is when you get stuff that's good but you don't actually need, you find a pleasant need for it later.

of course, everything in our shop is junk. Whether it's a hardware store chisel or something made by Shimamura (Kiyotada).

Hi, yes I bought the router, just need the bit, I tend to look at it if im buying something I try and get the best I can afford, already done buy cheap buy twice in the past, again im lucky that im a lot older and have a bit more disposable income, so my son is going to inherit some good stuff lol.
Phil, the sharpening is a point yes, so I need to look into that and find a cost effective way around it.
I may just spring for the set then.

This is the bottom of one of the doors the original *cough* joiner planed, top is similar, this is about 2.5mm halfway across so i need to use the plunge saw to even it out, luckily I have just enough left when the door is hung. If i fluff it up then its a lesson learned, a hard one yes but hey ho.
