and the more fuss everyone makes about sales and sales protocol the more likely charley is to eventually take the easiest line and just say "no sales, they cause too many problems" which is not desirable.

Perhaps, as Charley no longer takes an interest in the site & has handed running over to the mods, it`s time they added a" for sale" section with clear rules covering the new section.

This would then stop the bickering over for sale threads that seems to come up every month.

I suspect this is too sensible an idea & we will continue having prams emptied on a regular basis.

I agree with you Doug

I don't understand why we don't have a "For Sale" page on it's own? I did ask the question when I joined the Forum, as I was specifically after tools to get myself set up.

I've missed a number of sales because I'm browsing occasionally, and only find out they're for sale, when they're sold.

Perhaps this is something that could be looked into for the New Year.

Cheers

Not again. We've talked about this ad nauseam. Last time was a few months ago. The consensus (let alone whether or not Charlie and the mods are in agreement) was not to have a separate for sale section.

But we seem to have these types of threads more regularly, which points out (to me anyway) that we do need a "for sale" section with definite rules, regardless of the views of members who bothered to post in the last should/shouldn`t there be.

This type of thread will also repeat its self ad nauseam until some thing is sorted out, with either for sale threads banned or a section added. Some may not like it, but then they are not forced to read the for sale section.

I appreciate you pointing that out Roger, but if you don't mind me saying.....

You have well over 6000 posts, I have just over 200, I don't spend as much time as others on this Forum, so I don't see everything.

I can understand it's annoying when same posts keep appearing, but if this one is so popular, should it not be set in stone in the "Read Before Posting" section that way everyone knows why their isn't a sepaerate section ?

Cheers

Jed

This is the first "for sale etiquette" thread I can recall, so I don't think this is just rehashing old comments.
I don't think there are enough for sale threads to warrant their own section.
I don't think there needs to be rules about them either, becasue then you'll forget one of the rules and get panned for that.
If you're not happy with how someone has dealt with a for sale item then don't think about dealing with them again - easy.
I wouldn't want any of my dealings (few though they are) conducted publicly. The only exception should be if someone fails to deliver, then "name and shame" would be reasonable I think.

All IMHO, not intended to provoke anything... :)

In title maybe, Pete.

But if you care to read this recent thread :-
https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/view ... 80&start=0
It is another for sale thread which de-generated into pram emptying time over "forum manners"

Just recently it seems most for sale threads have taken a turn for the worst, which IMHO needs sorting out.

There clearly needs to be a proper classified sales section. Those of you using the forums to sell goods need to clearly differentiate as to whether you are a trade or private seller. You clould face prosecution if you are trader posing as a private vendor under the 1977 Businsess Advertisement Disclosure Act.

Does that act give a definition of a trader? I have heard of folks selling regularly on E-bay falling foul of the tax man & wondered if there was a point at which someone ceased being a private seller & became a trader.

Doug, from a tax perspective the answer to your question is referred to as the "badges of trade"

Here is a link from the tax inspectors Business Income manual;

Interesting subject, lots of cases on this as well. I seem to remember from my study days a case about toilet rolls. :) {Rutledge v CIR [1929] 14TC490}
