Hi all
have hit a brick wall (figuratively speaking!) - my Freud router needs a replacement bottom housing as part of the old one sheared off and the spindle locking slide couldn't be secured. I've got a replacement one but can't remove the shaft from the bottom housing:

I guess I need a spanner with two prongs in it to engage with the holes in the large black nut on the bottom of the shaft - am I right? If I am where do I get one?

Also, should I be worried about these gouges (?) in part of the motor windings?

Thanks for any advice.

The gouges are fromthe balancing, grind a bit out so it doesn't vibrate when running

Any chance of a pic of the bit that you are asking about?

Sorry it wasn't very clear! Arrows added - I think if I can stop the black disc moving I can unscrew the spindle using the flats machined on to hold the spindle lock with a 19mm spanner.

You could make a pin spanner to fit into the holes. Would that help?

Bob

It is probably easier to buy one of these pin spanners, either the adjustable type (probably the most versatile and useful for future jobs) or afixed size one.

They're often not done up that tight (if you're lucky) you can put a small punch into one of the holes and then place a lever between the punch and the shaft to turn it. Worth a try cheaper and faster than ordering something on line.

Thanks for all the tips - having found out they are called pin spanners led me to a search on line which suggested a bike shop might sell them as they are used on bottom brackets and freewheel assemblies. So, off to a local bike shop after work today and they undid it for me! Now to put it back when I've replaced the motor housing and they say they'll tighten it for me if I need them to!
That's service!!!

Thanks all.
