I have an old festool atf 55e and it has done stirling service. However it is 10years old ish and is dying. I bought it second hand so I feel it has been great value. It has been used where i work and they have not been kind to it. On the plus side they are happy to help with replacement costs.
I would dearly like to replace it in the next month, However. In the past my choices were largely mafel and Festool. Now however we have a makita imitation and a Dewalt pretender to the throne. Due the the small site i work i like the ideal of a cordless saw but am worried about the power.
So does anyone have any opinions on the makita or the dewalt. I have been very happy with the festool but it is almost 90pounds more expensive. And the makita seems very similar in the photos.

Hi Owen,

I have not had a chance to use either the Makita or the Dewalt but I do have a TS55 and I cant imagine the Dewalt is anywhere near the quality of the Festool.

I imagine the makita is probably nearer, but still not quiet as good build quality wise. I have a Makita 5703RK I use for everyday use and it is well made with a nice motor.

Stick with Festool I say

There's a video of the dewalt plunge saw in action on a dewalt site. Sorry don't know address, but found it by accident while looking on the festool owners site about the ts55

Mafel do a cordless version of their plunge saw that fits their rail system etc. I didn't think Festool did a cordless version? Someone said B & Dekker/De Walt were pulling out the stops now Festool is seriously going at the US market - but this is not cordless either?
