Remotely controlled DX.

I'm putting my DX outside the workshop in a out house to the side of my garage workshop.

I don't want to have go outside to turn it on. Can I move the NVR switch to a convenient position inside on a wall?

It's a 1kw rexon snail type.

Mine is inside but tucked away in the corner of the shop it covers the whole shop via a series of blast gates

I have a 6 meter lead with a remote mounted NVR switch with Emg Stop

The cable is a braided metal flex so its protected and on the back of the remote NVR switch i have glued a couple or rare earth magnets which allows me to attract it to what ever machine I am using

I brought the NVR from Ebay about £25 and got a friendly local sparks to wire it for me

When I build my wood store its likely i will move it to there along with my compressor

My next explore is to look to upgrade the blast gates to actuator operated and have them either linked into the power feed to each machine or operated my a remote control

You don't need an NVR switch on your extractor just use a standard switch and you will be fine. If the power goes off you will know and there is no risk from your extractor coming back on with the power anyway, it is hardly a hazard.

I did the same thing last year. Moved the extractor outside and rewired the switch to bypass NVR and extended cable indoors. It plugs into a remote control adaptor so if mains fails it defaults to off via the remote so no issue there. A lot quieter and healthier inside the shop now.

I don’t see why not, however I suggest you have some method of isolation close to the extractor so you can be sure it is dead when unblocking, emptying, etc. (a plug and socket is basic but effective).

Also keeping the NVR is good as that will stop unexpected start ups following a power loss.

Finally in case you are tempted, beware of total reliance on remote control adapters or sockets. There are a few reports of extractors being accidentally turned on whilst unattended and overheating to the point of being a fire risk. If you use one you should isolate the supply to it when you leave the workshop.

I've bypassed the NVR switch ATM,

I'm going to pug inside to the socket I have inside. I always turn all power that I have (double socket and extension lead to lights and chargers etc) when I leave the garage.

DX = Dust eXtractor.
Here we tend to call them DC = Dust Collector

you could use something like this, now that you have bypassed your NVR, or make your own using the NVR from the DX

Good idea I have one if those on my router table I think...
