As title says , this has just turned to a red warning. The satellite image is looking pretty dire for Ireland Wales and the south coast of England Just been out battening down the hatches, making sure all ladders are on the deck and safely stashed away . Also, that all the doors and windows to the greenhouses are firmly shut No doubt we will have a power cut if the winds are as high as predicted.

Thanks for the heads up, hadn't seen this.

Niall? "Thanks"..I am sitting in NuuKassel (as pronounced) departure lounge, heading into Belfast....the flight has already been delayed 3.5 hours and one cannot help but wonder the atmospherics will.be like once we get "wheels up!".
..I'm spending 5 days on the north coast and - from previous experience - it will be difficult to stand upright, or even still, on the beaches over there.

As
Ask Michael Fish.
As I recall he underestimated the coming storm.

@artie, you're not having a Michael Fish moment , are you?:giggle:
Possibly, maybe it's because of his error that "they" now err in the opposite direction.

It's getting a bit blustery on the causeway coast right now. But not gale force.

yet. :)

A couple of weeks ago the Spanish Met Service got a lot of stick for the timeliness and accuracy of their forecasts which lead to flooding and loss of life.

The UK Met Office are perhaps being a little bit cautious as a result. Problem is - cry wolf too often and folk start to ignore warnings.

I still question the sanity of those who ignore what is evidently likely to be a bit wild.

My light's are already flickering which is normally a prelude to a power cut. Sitting watching TV with a torch
at hand. I've been in the workshop and fired up the generator just in case. I haven't fired .it up for a couple of years so was pleasantly surprised when it started second pull .
Alan.

My parents have had an official message on mum’s phone warning of the impending storm. That hasn’t happened before. That’s in South Devon.

😀 ahhh, Ulster pragmatism. I love it! Going over there on Sunday for a carvery; be interesting to see what Darragh wrote his name on.

The descent into Aldergrove tonight was a bit bumpy, but no worse than a pot-holed C road. Getting down the steps onto 120m of unshielded tarmac to the terminal, on the other hand, was akin to stepping into a swimming pool having stand up fisticuffs with a Magimix. The pluvial precipitation was coming down, horizontal, upward, laterally, any way, so long as it homed in on the puny humans. Lovely. Blowing into the bus stop.on the other side of the building too. Bus didn't turn up. Unlovely.

Just home from badminton, seems to be all over.

For now anyway.

My garden is trashed this morning, looking round the school i don't see any downed trees but the winds are still pretty strong at the minute, will probably lose all of Monday going round and inspecting every tree to see how they fared ( about 20% of our trees are on a ditchbank than surrounds the field, we had 2 come down last year so I won't be surprised if more go down after this. I wouldn't mind too much but I've run out of places to store all these felled trees, I dont want any more down for at least another year 🤪🥴

It continues to be pretty alarming here. Gusts of 83mph were recorded down the road at Aberporth Not much sleep last night because of all the noise The car is bouncing up and down alarmingly and one of our front lobby's is ringing wet with rain driven past the front door (think power shower)_

I've not risked going out yet but I can see that our metal rose arch is all twisted and bent and a trellis is down. Will have to check on the greenhouses later when it feels a bit safer

Storm Darragh is very much still with us,-even now.

We avoided the power cuts , but our neighbour has been without power since 1am. Lots of trees are down and the wind is still roaring outside..
The Dyfed police have declared a major incident ti the counties of Ceredigion Carmarthen Powys and Pembrokeshire because of the disruption.

. I don't think it is set to abate until the early hours of tomorrow morning
