Hi
Any advice on a record power CL3 losing power. It's only 2 years old, Record says that it needs a new motor? and as I purchased it second hand Record tells me that the gaurentee isn't transferable, which was quite a surprise.

Hi Steve
Haven`t got a CL3 but don`t Record give a 5yr warranty or does that exclude the motor?

Steve

Acording to Record gaurentees are not transferable they are only to the first purchaser, somewhat of a surprise.

Steve if it's the standard motor (not the electronic 3ph option) then I suspect it is just the capacitor that has/or is failing.

Can't remember the setup, it might be fitted in a blister canister on the side of the motor or in the switch box.

Most electrical factors will have suitable motor starter/running capacitor.

Hi
I had on of the old SIP variable speed lathes and the capacitor went on that with similar results. I bought a capacitor from a company called Farnell, they are a supplier of electronic components.

I now have a Record CL4 36 that I bought from snainton wood turning. I went and collected it in a Rover 820 All the way from Nottingham. It just fitted in the car along with the wife and her wheelchair.) :D I had had this lathe just over 12 months when it went bang one sunday afternoon. I phoned Snainton on monday morning and they got Record to phone me straight away. Record said they would arrange collection of the motor the following day (Tuesday) but the carrier never turned up, this happened the following day again so I told Record that I would deliver the motor myself as they are only 25 miles away up the M1. Record phoned me later that day to say that the bearing on the drive end of the motor shaft had gone and they had never had one go before therefor they would send me a replacement NEW motor FOC which is now running beautifully.

Hope you get sorted out quickly.

Malcolm

Steve, can you persuade the original owner to report the faulty motor (since, presumably, the guarantee still applies for him) and then give you the replacement? Just a thought.

Bob

Many thanks for the advice, I've just got back from a few days away, believe it or not in Borrowdale, I'll try the advice given
