hi there ladies and gents,

im looking for some infomation im just getting started in woodturning and bought the model lathe mentioned which is a record power dml24x,I'm looking for some help in what drive centre's fit this lathe and what chucks will it take,as i bought in off a fella and he said it came with everything i needed for woodturning, but it turned up nothing off the sort with it.

cheers

it will be 3/4 x 16TPI on the headstock and MT1 on the tailstock.

if you let us know what you plan on turning, at least to begin with, it is easier to advise the most suitable centres, chucks etc. A chuck is not essential, but does make things easier. I personally like the 1/2" crown drive and live centres on here http://www.chronos.ltd.uk/acatalog/SCT- ... hucks.html They are similar to the steb centres, but cheaper- they are friendly to a beginer, but are designed for small diameter spindles.

If you are undecided, have you thought about doing pens? they can range from the simple to the complex, and are suitable for beginners. They dont use too much wood up, so if you make a mistake, you are not scrapping hours of effort and pounds of cost. and you dont need a huge amount of equipment to get started.

i was looking at goblets or bowls to start off with and i was also looking at pens which i am rather keen on making the pens which look rather simple to make, thanks for the reply anyway marcros.
