Record nova 1624-44 outrigger

hello, I have a Record Nova 1624-44 lathe without the leg stand, it is mounted on a good solid homemade bench as I wanted drawers under the bench, it is mounted very close to the outside of the bench and I would like to fit a Record power OR 300 outrigger to it but I am not sure if there is enough room,it is hard to judge from the photos has anyone done this or have any idea's if there is a way round it, Thank you, http://www.machinery4wood.co.uk/product ... Virtually impossible for anyone with one of these outriggers fitted to give you any advise as your precise lathe location and bench construction is not obvious from your description I'm afraid.

A good image of your lathe headstock location in relation to the left hand front corner of the bench and underlying bench construction would be a lot more useful.

My Tyme Avon has a similar rest system, and as per the photos of the Nova rest, the part that fits onto the headstock has a base that is level with the base of the lathe's mounting for most of it's length. So if the lathe is close to the edge as you state, it ought to fit.

If you've a solid wooden top to your bench, you can always just take a chisel to it and have a hack at it until the rest fits.
On my Avon I found that it needed a little clearance under the bowl rest to allow the rest to be removed easily when not in use. These extra rests can get in the way when you're you're not turning outboard, so ensuring they come off quickly will be valuable in future.

I have an idea for a way round it - move the lathe until it fits ;-)

Again like others without seeing your set up it is hard to say But if it is a case of needing a little extra height for clearance and it only need an extra 1" you could put some spacers under the lathe to raise it that small amount as long as you can turn comfortable with that small amount

Your lathe bed would need to stand around 40mm from the end of the bench & about the same from the front of the bench if, as I believe, the out rigger & lathe bed on your lathe is the same as the DVR.

Just found this photo from my Instagram feed

As you can see the arm that attaches to the bed throws the out rigger around 40mm away from the end of the bed.
The rest of the out rigger is a lot lower so to bring the adjustable arm close in to the front of the lathe the bed would need to be quite close to the front 40-50mm, that said if you are turning the headstock outboard then that wouldn't matter as much.

Thank you all for your helpful advice and pictures, I know it is hard without seeing my setup, I am not sure how to post photos on here, I have the same problem as a lot of you -not enough room, I can't move the lathe but I could raise it a little or cut the bench, I have ordered the outrigger and will make it fit somehow.
