Did my usual trip to the Sammy Miller auto jumble, and picked up 3 Record 8" clamps, (the old style with the large butterfly to turn with) for £12. Cleaning off the workshop muck I found one still had its Record transfer on, but it is quite clearly plain, no paint, so would these be war time finish, or were clamps produced in the buff?

Sorry chaps no pics yet.........G

Hi G,

I suppose it isn't beyond the bounds of possibility that your cramp could have 'escaped' in a worker's haversack one winter evening, and it could be close to unique!

But I do have six Record 3" edging clamps from the 60s. Theses were finished with some kind of chrome or nickel plate straight onto the forged metal. (They never really did the job well btw, as it took a lot of torque to hold the clamp on when you tightened up the screw against the lipping you were trying to fix. You also needed a lot of them! )

HTH

John :D

Got a couple of 10" Record G's, and they show no sign of painting on them. No sign of the transfer, or where it might have been, either. So either they were made like that, or an awful lot sneaked out of the works unofficially :)
