When I buy woodworking and metalworking machines I always try to find the older stuff. I get a great kick out of taking an old, rusty woodworking machine and bringing back to life.

I recently got a few pieces in a job lot today. I got a pillar drill, table saw, grinding machine and big metal working vice. I know that the large vice is by record and that it is quite old. The grinding machine is by RJH although I am not sure of the date; they make a similar model now.

The pillar drill and table saw have no branding or dates or anything on them. I was wandering if they looked at all familiar to any toolies on here? Their colour seems similar to that of wadkin or startrite from the 70s but lacking the build quality of wadkin I think. Any one have any thoughts? Its a long shot I know

I just like to know a bit about the tools I have :D :D :D

Thanks!

Josh

Interesting stuff, I don't have any idea about either the drill or saw bench.
I would think most members would enjoy a WIP on any of you're renovations, I definately will, so please
post when you can!

Cool thanks! Im fairly busy right now, so time will tell. I am hoping to get all the rust polished off the table saw, I will then paint it (in my colours) and add new belts and leads. I will also rewire and oil the motor and oil all parts accordingly, it will then be for sale as I already have 2 set up.

As for the other pieces I may be a while before I get round to playing with them properly. I can however share a band saw restoration I worked on last year.

The sawbench is a Startrite, probably a TA145 . it's the deluxe type with bars at the front and back of the table for the fence to run on

Thanks for the responses,

Yes you are correct after some checking that is the startrite you suggested! Still no news on the drill press..

I have dismantled the grinder ready for cleaning. I found some information on it, they still make them today but mine is a much older version - a very heavy duty machine designed for continuous factory use. Very excited about getting it all restored and back together!

The table saw has also begun the dismantling process. I think it might take a while, some bolts have totally frozen in place due to rust. I am going to oil them daily and hope over time they start to succumb to some movement, I think patience is going to be the key here.

I will try to get some pictures up soon!
