Hi all...

Had a call from my 84 yr old dad earlier saying the clicker waste in the bathroom basin wont click back up to release.

I said had he 'jabbed' it several times with a finger to try and release it..... yes

Had he tried unscrewing it to let the water out..... yes

So.... short of going to have a look for him, or resorting to calling out a 'man that can'.... anyone got any ideas..??

The whole of the plug on mine comes out just by gripping it on both sides and pull up. The clicker part comes out with the frame around it and can be cleaned separately.

I have one that is reluctant to declick. Simply gently pulling it up slightly gives a small click and then the normal click operation frees up and you can click to release the water.

We have a similar one in our bathroom. I initially thought the reluctance was the 'rubber' sealing washer sticking when pushed down. I tried plumbing silicone grease which eased the problem for a short while. Last time when it played up I also had to clear out the trap as it was only emptying slowly - not a pleasant task! While I had access to the mechanism from above and below I found that the clicky mechanism was binding and ended up trying to force plumbing silicone grease into the moving parts from above and below. This has improved it and it now seems to work OK but it was both awkward and fiddly to do.

As our one is a standard size plug hole we will (if need be) be able to unscrew the top of the mechanism and use a conventional plug and chain in its place.
