Afternoon all,

Just looking for advice for buidling a kids playhouse. Trying to keep it cheapish.

Does the framing have to be pressure treated bearing in mind it will be clad in shiplap and painted.
Saw some CLS 38x63 studwork and its cheap compared to pressure treated and wondered if this would be ok.
Alternative is 45mmx45mm pressure treated. I'm not a chippy so no idea how different would behaves etc.

Would be grateful for some pointers and apologies if this has been answered before (i'm just going to check)

Cheers

D

I'd say it's better to get it built now, while your children want to play in it. Even with untreated timber, it should last longer than they will want it. My Father in law built an adult playhouse (he calls it a summerhouse!) over thirty years ago with untreated timber which is still making him happy. (Top tip - don't skimp on the quality of the roofing felt.)

And as far as I know, Building Regs don't apply!

I build mine from the cheapest 2x3's I could get untreated and ripped them in half on the table saw, covered in shiplap its water tight and I didnt even paint the inside. I did however use treated 2x3's for the base that the T&G sits on which I treated the underside of.

Thats all good news then. I have a tanalised 4x2 base on pavers for it to sit on and sheet floor so as long as i cover that aqequately i'm hoping should last them until they are well and truly bored of it.
