Hi, just new to the forum, in the process of sorting through my various items and came across this 3ft ruler (brass) I have posted on the media wall various photos, just want to know what environment the ruler was used in (no holes drilled in the ruler) it is marked as Raybone Chesterman No1319 1/8th graduations
it is only marked out in imperial measures. The two Companies of (i.e Raybone AND Chesterman) merged in 1963. On 24th May 1965 the Government announced that the UK would be adopting metric units in place of imperial ones and in March the following year The British Standards institute published "Metric Standards for engineering." After that most rulers, were graduated in Imperial and Metric measures, The ruler was stamped in 1967 in Stockport (No 5 denotes) it must have been manufactured after 1963
