RAS Saw blades

Hello
could someone please recommend a make of sawblade which performs well on my radial arm saw. This might seem a daft request but I have had my saw for about five years and have always been happy with my freud blade but upon replacing it I do not get the same cut quality as before. I make this request as I cannot find a freud replacement unless anyone knows where I can get one from,many thanks.

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately they don't sell anything like that around here even the specialist toolshops don't stock them.I have tried online but freud blades with negative rake seem impossible to find.

Do you have the blade sharpened? you should get about 3-4 sharpenings before it needs replacing depending on the thickness of the carbide tips. Most decent tool shops will take the blades in and do a sharpening service usually 1wk turnaround.

Wealden do a negative hook blade for use in RAS but I have not tried one

Yes I have had the blade sharpened a couple of times but unfortunately it has now lost a tooth so it needs replacing. I think I was spoilt with the freud blade as it would allow you to take a fraction off whereas it seems newer blades rely on the cutting width to add stability otherwise they would just push off and not give you a good cut and finnish.

Why not get the tooth replaced.

A good saw doctor will put a new tooth & resharpen.

We've have this done a few times and had no problems.

I was in a local saw service place near Peterhead yesterday, and enquired about tooth replacement (saw, not my own gnashers) He quoted a price of under £2 per tooth, which sounded very cheap to me. What is other's experience?

When I worked at the terminal in St Fergus it was so cold my teeth chattered out of my head, it cost a lot more for a new tooth then. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Trend waveform blades are good ive just bought one recently for mine. I bought the 72 tooth one for around £35 less than its listed on the trend site(from Buck and Ryan,and it came straight from Trend). Theyve changed the design from whats in the picture ,mine has these copper inserts in the three laser cuts.

CMT do some but they only seem available in the US.
I also bought a Freud slightly smaller blade 8 3/4 " (LP 30M 019)which is good but not available in any other size for some reason,it has a steeper tooth bevel and negative rake. This i bought from Cromwells.

Here in "murica we use miter saw blades with negative hook. 40 or 50 tooth combination blades work also. I know freud has these. Don't know about over the pond.

I always use Freud blades on my DeWalt RAS, very quiet in operation and they stay sharp for a long time. Highly recommended. You must use negative rake remember.

Sorry Ned, I just read your post again!
Im surprised you cant get a Freud replacement. I'll check the one on my RAS and see if its still listed. Its one of the LU series I think.

Hi Ned,

I have Freud blades in Stock. They are the only make of blades we keep as they are excellent quality.

We can also replace the broken tip and sharpen the blade.

If you would like a price, just let me know.

It was sold to me as negative rake but Im not sure if it is or not. It works really well however so I dont mind what the rake is.
Ive had no cut resistance or stalls with it like I used to get with the Dewalt blades and the cut is always very clean.

Thanks for your info, I too have had trouble with the dewalt blades whereas the cmt blades were better but not as good as the freud blades.
I have now managed to get a freud through Tom at bedford saws so alls well that ends well. Many thanks
