Hi folks, this was my first project in my new little workshop - luckily managed to finish the build and wiring just before lockdown.
My granddaughter had read The Rainbow Fish and I had the notion of making her an actual wooden one.
I normally work in beech, but was persuaded by my local wood store to try lime.
I bought a block, but was a bit disappointed to find that it was so soft when I first cut into it.
In fact, at a later stage this helped because I found that a scalpel could be used to easily carve the scales.
To complete the job it was back to my usual standby of Humbrol enamel.
For the shiny scales, which are pivotal to the original story, I found self-adhesive foil stickers on the usual shopping website.
Two coats of varnish to complete the job, which is now my granddaughter's favourite thing. Result.
There is little more satisfying than putting a smile on someone's face by the fruits of your labours.
