Well, Radio Four really.
I caught the end of a programme about trees today - there are two episodes in the series, in which naturalist Richard Mabey discusses the yew, beech, elm and holly. It's about trees, not timber, so is mostly from a cultural/mythical/natural historical perspective, but I found it interesting. Optimistic on ash die-back too.
Both programmes are on iPlayer and available "for the next 85 years".

Episode 2: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0367sqd
Worth a listen when next in a quiet workshop.
